Planning tools for building work

Building planning software from setup to handover

Building project planning should make the route through a job understandable. Whether you are organising an extension, residential building work or a substantial refurbishment, the plan needs to connect early decisions with site activities and completion checks. PlannerBuild provides a workspace for that whole-job review.

Make the project boundary clear

Start by recording the agreed scope and identifying separate packages. Include work undertaken by others where it affects the sequence, but distinguish it from your own contractual responsibility. Note unresolved design or client decisions and give important approvals an activity that can be reviewed.

An extension may involve site setup, structure, enclosure, services, finishes and handover. The interface with the existing building can affect several of those stages. Adapt the structure to the actual job rather than copying a timeline that assumes every building project is the same.

Bring procurement into the whole-job view

Long-lead materials and specialist packages can influence the building programme before they arrive on site. Record decision deadlines, orders and expected deliveries with the related activities. Confirm dates with suppliers and review any changed commitment against the work sequence.

A delivery record is planning information, not an order placement or guarantee. Use your purchasing process for confirmations and terms. The programme should help identify which commitment needs attention next.

Review stages and individual tasks together

Use the Gantt to see the wider sequence and the overview to inspect the task details. Check progress, actual dates, trade information and blockers before deciding whether upcoming work is ready. Include inspections or review points wherever the project requires them.

Recorded dependencies explain relationships between activities. They do not replace competent coordination or automatically certify readiness. After a date changes, review the successor activities yourself and communicate the agreed sequence through your usual project process.

Define completion before the end

Include testing, commissioning where applicable, snagging, required documentation and client handover in the plan. Do not treat the last installation activity as automatic completion of the project. Check the contract and statutory requirements for the actual completion obligations.

Keep a manageable update routine and download dated editable backups. The workspace supports construction planning, not every contractual, safety or business function. Explore the demo first and check the plans shown inside the application when you need full PlannerBuild access.

Questions about building project planning

Is building planning software only for new builds?

No. The same activity structure can support extensions and refurbishment work when adapted to the project’s scope and constraints.

Does the plan replace professional design or approvals?

No. It organises the activities and information around the work. Design, consents, safety arrangements and statutory responsibilities remain with the appropriate people.
